After a battle, a knight's gauntlet remains on the ground, with a small icon of the Virgin Mary inside. The composition brings together two opposing images: the maternal, bringing life and hope, and the martial, associated with strength and violence. Despite the artist's pacifism, the work also speaks of the need to defend one's family and country.
